Lille defender passes Arsenal medical ahead of transfer

Lille defender Gabriel has passed his Arsenal medical.

The Times says Gabriel has completed his Arsenal medical ahead of a summer move to the Emirates.

The Gunners have been chasing the Lille centre-back, 22, all summer as they desperately look to address their leaky defence following a dismal defensive record last season.

The Brazilian is set to complete his £22million move to the Emirates in the coming days. He is set to put pen to paper on a five-year contract.

The Gunners are acting swiftly, given the intense interest in the 22-year-old Brazilian from rival European clubs.

Italian giants Napoli reportedly have still not given up hope of pulling off the signing.

However, he will likely not be ready for the start of the season, with those arriving on UK soil from France forced to self-isolate for 14 days before they are allowed to participate in any sporting event.

Arsenal kick off their 2020-21 season with the Community Shield against Liverpool on August 29, before playing Fulham two weeks later in their Premier League opener.

Arsenal already have a strong alliance with the French club, after previously negotiating a deal for Pepe last summer.
