Chelsea could make a transfer swoop for John Stones this summer after the Man City defender fell further down the pecking order following the arrival of Nathan Ake.
Frank Lampard is likely to want an overhaul to his defence this summer after conceding 54 Premier League goals and crashing out of the Champions League to Bayern Munich 7-1 on aggregate.
The Mirror says Chelsea boss Frank Lampard is hoping to snap up Stones in a bargain £20million deal.
Stones joined City four years ago in a £50m deal from Everton but last season featured just 16 times in the Premier League.
The 26 years old England man has gone further down the pecking order at the Etihad stadium with the £41million signing of ex Chelsea player Nathan Ake from Bournemouth.
Pep Guardiola is also thought to be keen to bring in further defensive reinforcements, which could include Napoli’s Kalidou Koulibaly.
That has sparked interest from Stamford Bridge boss Lampard who feels he can resurrect the central defender’s career.
The centre-back may seek a move to resurrect his career elsewhere and Chelsea could be the ideal place.
Stones could find himself out of contention for a place in Gareth Southgate’s England team if he continues to sit on the bench at City.
A move away with more regular first-team football could help him cement a place for next year’s European Championships.
