Chelsea are closing in on a deal to sign Bayer Leverkusen star midfielder Kai Havertz this summer. According to a report Chelsea have reached an agreement with Leverkusen over a transfer fee. The report also states that the player has also agreed personal terms with the West London club. An announcement is imminent, the Blues will announce the deal before the end of the week.
Frank Lampard has already landed Hakim Ziyech from Ajax and Timo Werner from RB Leipzig in an attempt to strengthen his forward line. The former Chelsea midfielder is also determined to close the gap to Liverpool and Manchester City at the top of the table has seen him push for more signings.
Havertz, 21, has been top of Lampard’s wish list for a few months, and Chelsea have long been seen as the favourites to sign the player from Leverkusen. According to The Athletic’s David Ornstein and prominent Italian journalist Fabrizio Romano, there might not be too long to wait until final agreement is reached.
The Germany international has already revealed that he wants to leave the Bay Arena this summer, but given the impact of the Covid19 outbreak, it has crippled the financial side of football, thereby lowering the list of suitors for Havertz. But it seems Chelsea have done enough to land their man.
