Chelsea are reportedly mulling a transfer bid for unsettled Bayern Munich defender David Alaba. Alaba has been linked with a move from the Bavarian club following reports that he is unlikely to sign a new deal.
Chelsea are determined to sign the defender with a new left-back at the top of the club’s priority this summer. The Blues have embarked on a transfer spree with Morocco midfielder Hakim Ziyech and German forward Timo Werner joining the club.
Chelsea boss Frank Lampard is keen on a left-back and Alaba fits the bill. The 27-year-old is a world-class performer and has shown consistency across his career. In addition, he is versatile and can play in different positions across the defence and midfield.
The Austria international contract ends next season and he would be a cheaper option than Leicester fullback Ben Chilwell. Bayern Munich are open to selling if he fails to sign a new deal and Chelsea could swoop for his services.
