Chelsea have made a stunning swap offer for West Ham United midfielder Declan Rice. The Times says Chelsea offered Michy Batshuayi and Ross Barkley to West Ham in an £80million deal for Rice.
The Blues are keen to strengthen their options even further this summer with the 21-year-old and are believed to have offered Michy Batshuayi and Ross Barkley in exchange.
But The Times state that West Ham rebuffed the proposal and will continue to stand firm over their £80million valuation.
David Moyes‘ side are not interested in taking on the rarely used players who have hardly had any significant roles in Frank Lampard‘s Chelsea set-up.
Belgian striker Batshuayi scored just one league goal last term, and Barkley has often struggled in the heart of midfield as he tries to impose himself as a regular performer for the Blues.
Despite the heavy interest in Rice, who starred once again last season, the club are reluctant to sell their prized star to Chelsea. Rice began his career as a centre-back, coming through the Chelsea academy before he was released at the age of 14.
And Lampard is looking to convert the 21-year-old back to a central defender in order to solve Chelsea’s rearguard issues long-term.
Targeting reinforcements for his backline and midfield has become a priority for Frank Lampard over the upcoming season. Chelsea have identified Rice as the ideal solution due to the player’s versatility and prowess in a deeper-lying role.
