Premier League giants Chelsea have expressed interest in RB Leipzig defender Dayot Upamecano according to reports from Europe.
The young defender is considered as one of the best young talents in Germany and the Blues are eager to sign him in the coming transfer window.
The Athletic claims that the player has had contacts with Chelsea officials regarding a deal in the summer. The report also says that the France defender has also had approaches from other EPL clubs regarding a transfer.
Upamecano has turned to a contract rebel in recent months failing to agree to new terms from Leipzig which has increased speculations on his future. Manchester United and Arsenal have also expressed interest in his services.
However, Chelsea appear to be the favourites and could trigger the €60m buyout clause in his existing contract. The Europa League holders have been busy in the transfer window with the recent transfers of Hakim Ziyech and Timo Werner.
Despite this impressive attacking signings, there is a lingering feeling that the defence needs reinforcements and the signing of Upamecano would fix this problem.
