Manchester City are reportedly the frontrunners to sign Napoli defender Kalidou Koulibaly according to reports from Italy. The defender is expected to leave the club in the summer and there are growing indications that his next destination would be the Etihad.
Local tabloid II Mattino reports that the FA Cup champions face competition from Newcastle United in the race for the defender. However, Koulibaly is set to be keen on a move to City as he relishes working with Pep Guardiola.
Napoli are ready to sell the defender as they need cash to help fund new signings in summer. Furthermore, the Covid pandemic means that the Italian club would have to reduce their valuation for the 29-year-old.
It is though that Koulibaly will join City this summer in a £72m deal which includes a five-year contract for the Senegal international. Manchester City have struggled in defence all season and the inclusion of Koulibaly should bring relief to the club supporters.
The sturdy defender possess pace, power and has the world-class ability to bring quality to the entire team.
