Manchester City have endured a mixed start by their standards with the Citizens losing to Norwich and Wolves which leaves them six points off the mark. However, yesterday’s game against Southampton brought back the memories of the title win two seasons ago.
In a game where the away side took the lead due to a mistake from goalkeeper Ederson, it looked like a game that could end their title chase. However, Pep Guardiola’s side dug deep and continued to apply pressure to a Southampton team that sat back.
One source of worry for Guardiola will be the number of crosses put in by the home side against a Southampton team that was comfortable in the air. Manchester City has increasingly looked towards crossing this season despite Aguero or Jesus not necessarily the tallest of forwards.
Kyle Walker was a positive for the Blues with the England international having fire in his belly after recently losing his place to Cancelo. It was his cross that was converted by Sergio Aguero for the equaliser. Walker will also pop up in the box for the most unlikely winner.
The celebrations from the City players and fans showed how much the victory meant to the team as they travel to the fortress that is Anfield in their next League game.
