Manchester City gave midfield maestro the perfect farewell as they ran out 5-0 winners over Norwich on Sunday. The Etihad club put on a vintage display against the basement side despite having nothing to play for.
Star midfielder Kevin De Bruyne ran the show netting twice and grabbing an assist with Gabriel Jesus, Riyad Mahrez and Raheem Sterling also getting on the act. David Silva started the game and was exceptional for the Citizens.
It was his last Premier League game for City and the Spaniard was given an emotional applause after being withdrawn in the second half. Speaking to reporters after the game Silva admitted that he would miss playing for the club. “It was emotional because they are amazing people, I have been working for them for 10 years and I have a good relationship with them. I love them and I am going to miss all of them.
The 34-year-old has a last chance to win the title that has eluded him at the club as City host Real Madrid in the round of 16 in August. City fans will be hopeful that the silky midfielder can lead the club to the promised land in one final act.
