Son Wins Record AFC International Player Of The Year Award

Tottenham Hotspur forward, Son Heung-min has been declared as the Asia Football Confederation’s International Player of the Year.

Since the inception of the award in 2012, Son has won the award a record 3 times, 2015, 2017 and 2019. He has finished runners up on two occasions.

Son was given the national team captain’s armband earlier this year, the extra expectation has not derailed him towards the quest for another world cup qualification.

The 27-year-old scored 12 League goals in 31 Premier League appearances last season. He was also influential in Spurs run to the final of the UEFA Champions League, where they lost 2-0 to Liverpool. His goals against Manchester City was very crucial in their quarter-final victory against the English Champions, Manchester City.

Tottenham Hotspur have endured a mixed season so far,  still, Son has been among the few positives of the season.

He has registered 9 goals and 8 assists in all competitions this season. The South Korean international’s form for club and country over the calendar year has seen him bag another international recognition.

The announcement was made on AFC official website, Son’s latest victory meaning he has won the award two more times than any other competitor. The player would be looking to have a good season which would extend his dominance in the award.
